Word Collage Artwork

Create a unique work of art. This is a great project for the kids

Use a frame, foam-core board, tissue paper, and cutout letters from scrap paper or recycled magazines. Decoupage pieces of tissue paper around the foam-core board as a border, then glue your letters directly onto the foam-core board. When dry, frame the inspirational artwork.

DIY Heart Shape Box

Make this easy heart shaped box, then fill with candies and home made goodies

4-ply matte board
Poster board
Glue gun
Decorative edgers
Decorative paper
Rubber cement
Candy
Fine-tipped glue applicator (optional)
Glitter (optional)
STEPS

Print out the heart template and enlarge to the desired size; you'll want two hearts, one slightly smaller than the other. Trace the two heart shapes onto 4-ply matte board; the larger heart is for the inner top of the box, the smaller is for the bottom.
Cut two 1-inch strips of poster board, enough to fit around the circumference of the two hearts. Apply glue from the glue gun a couple of inches at a time to the edges of the hearts, shaping it as you work your way around the heart to create the side of the box.
Decorate the top and bottom in the desired fashion. Cut out 2 large hearts from the poster board using decorative edgers. Affix one of the hearts to the top of the box using rubber cement, and one to the bottom.
Make a heart-shaped cutout from decorative paper and place inside. Fill with candy and top with a heart-shaped liner. You can write a message on top with a fine-tipped glue applicator and a few sprinkles of glitter.

  • Red, pink and white wrapping paper in assorted solids and patterns
  • Craft matchboxes (at ecrater.com)
  • Glue stick

1. Cut wrapping paper to wrap around outside of box.
2. Apply glue to the back of wrapping paper. Adhere paper to matchbox, working from one end and pushing out any air bubbles as you go.
3. Using heart-shaped punches in different sizes, make hearts out of wrapping paper. Or cut narrow strips of wrapping paper using pinking shears and make a design by punching out a row of small hearts from strips.
4. Decorate wrapped boxes as desired, using hearts, heart strips, baker’s twine, gift tags and adhesive rhinestone strips.

Two DIY Christmas Card Projects

Make something cute from extra holiday cards

                                                                 Credit/Source: BHG

Spell out your holiday greetings with festive Christmas card blocks. Spray paint 1-1/2-inch wooden blocks with antique white spray paint. Cut 1-3/8-inch squares from six holiday cards so each side features a background from a different card. Use a die-cutting tool or stickers to make 1-inch tall letters. Glue the paper squares and letters to the blocks with a decoupage medium. Suggested words: Joy, Peace, Love, Hope

                                                               Credit/Source:BHG

Cut various size circles out of Christmas cards, scalloping the edges of some. From the center of each circle cut out a 3/16-inch pie-shaped wedge. Curl the circle into a cone shape (pattern side up), overlap the ends, and tape the back.

To make the base, cut a 2-inch foam ball in half and a 1/8-inch dowel to desired height. Place the foam ball flat side down, add a drop of hot glue to an end of the dowel, and push the dowel through the foam ball until it stops. Slide the largest cone shape down the dowel, and then twist a small rubber band around the dowel; continue alternating progressively smaller cone shapes with rubber bands. Top the paper Christmas tree with the smallest cone shape and a ribbon.

Cheap But Festive Halloween Banner

The other day I was in Lowe's looking at paint samples, when I realized the cute little sample cards are the perfect size for flags on a banner. I picked out 14 fall colors and went home to make something cute!
  1. Cut the bottom of the cards in a /\ shape...

     2. Punch holes in each top corner...

       3.  I used cute polka dot cupcake liners for the letters background. I smashed them down so they would             lay flat. Glue the letters on top. For a free printable of "Happy Halloween" click here

       5. String the assembled cards onto twine or ribbon.
       6. Add some spooky embellishments from the dollar store.
